ALDI Süd, After Christmas

For most of us, the holidays start a few days before Christmas but for one man, the pressure is on! Thankfully, the job can be done in one night and as soon as it’s over, Father Christmas can finally rein it in.

Holiday campaigns can be tricky. Although there’s much iconography and plenty of room for nostalgia, there’s always the risk of cliché. But for Terence, cliches are toys made to be played with, or up-cycled. Terence's comedy approach was about taking stereotypes and breaking them – elevating not only how you would expect Santa to behave in his time off, but also what you would think any man typically does.

But to take the comedy home, characterisation needed to be perfect. Terence’s Santa was to be as fluffy as traditional Santa, but a little rougher around the edges as to make him more personable, and most importantly, his dazzling personality had to be his own. With clever production design, this personality shines through in the things he owns - he has a red and white wardrobe for any occasion (especially lounging), he’s travelled the world so he has many keepsakes, and he prizes the childhood Santa drawings of famous painters past.
